The press release says members of United Steelworkers Local 1011, representing 8500 workers at Youngstown Sheet and Tube (YST), have put forward a local bargaining demand that "…YST not use or purchase products produced under non-union conditions in Southern Africa, including but not limited to chrome from Rhodesia and coal and coke from the Republic of South Africa." The press release says this local demand, negotiated separately from the Basic Steel Agreement that goes into effect on Aug. 1, is one of more than 200 issues separating Local 1011 and YST.
