The mailing says this spring we have a critical opportunity to achieve passage of national disinvestment legislation while helping to build a powerful movement against Reagan's international and domestic policies. The mailing says the American Committee on Africa urges you to participate in the April Actions for Peace, Jobs and Justice (April 19-22) being held in Washington DC with parallel actions in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Houston, Seattle, and Denver; this is the first national mobilization in which southern Africa is one of the primary themes, and for the April 20th rally in Washington DC the proposed speakers include: African National Congress (ANC), Randall Robinson, and Dumisani Kumalo of ACOA. The mailing says many of you may be planning to come by bus to Washington on Saturday April 20 and to return that same day; it is vital that you try instead to arrange to stay over for the lobbying, or if you choose, civil disobedience on April 22. The mailing says iIn preparation for the lobby day there will be a conference on Sunday April 21 from 10am-6pm at Georgetown University in Wash DC; this conference will focus on southern Africa as one of its primary components; ACOA with the Washington Office on Africa will organize sessions to deal with lobbying for national legislation and development of grass-roots and national strategies (sum-up of Weeks of Action). The mailing says on Monday April 22 there will be a civil disobedience blockade action at the White House beginning at 9am; for anyone who prefers to lobby on Monday, you can then participate at 3:30pm in the daily protests at the South African Embassy.
