The leaflet says there was an ecumenical prayer service for the dead and detained in South Africa by local and national religious, labor and community leaders, followed by a press conference at the Mobil shareholder's meeting in Phoenix, Arizona. The event was aired on Phoenix television and radio. The leaflet says shareholders at the meeting called on Mobil to leave South Africa. Shareholders noted that in South Africa, Mobil's minimum wage falls below those of its major competitors such as Caltex and Shell. With a possible strike against Mobil in South Africa, shareholders asked about Mobil's possible response to a strike situation. Mobil's CEO publically refused to commit the company to not calling the South African police and military, or to share intelligence with the South African government in the event of a strike. The leaflet quotes Georges Racine, Chairperson of Mobil Oil Southern Africa.
