The meeting minutes says board members present were William Booth, Winifred Courtney, Dorothy Hibbert, Janet Hooper, Dana Klotzle, Elizabeth Landis, Tilden LeMelle, Edgar Lockwood, Gail Morlan, David Robinson, Adelaide Schulkind, Frederick Schwarz, William Scott, Timothy Smith, Richard Stevens, and Matthew Thompson. The meeting minutes says staff present were George Houser, Dick Leonard, Ben Peterson, and Christine Root. The meeting minutes says George Houser called attention to the report submitted by Eileen Hanson on her work with ACOA literature distribution and the New World Resource Center in Chicago; Dick Leonard reported that Sharon Williams, who had just started work on ACOA projects on a part-time basis had made the decision that her work at school would be too demanding so she could not take on the work at ACOA; George Houser announced that Robin Myers would be leaving ACOA after four years as our chief writer, responsible for work on fundraising pieces, press releases, fact sheets, and speeches. The meeting minutes say George Houser introduced Edgar Lockwood, the new Washington Office Director, and his assistant, Christine Root, who is on leave from Oberlin College; the Washington Office on Africa is now under the joint sponsorship of ACOA and the Africa Office of the Board for Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church, the Board for World Ministries of the United Church of Christ, and the Southern Africa Task Force of the United Presbyterian Church. The meeting minutes says Richard Stevens outlined preparations in progress for presenting Amilcar Cabral of the PAIGC in Guinea-Bissau with an honorary degree from Lincoln University on October 15; George Houser mentioned that the research undertaken this summer for The Africa Fund by Douglas Wachholz on the legal aspects of the import of goods made by forced labor is now under study by Peter Connell of the Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights Under Law and Joel Carlson at NYU; George Houser reminded the Board that the next year would be the 20th Anniversary of ACOA and the Board agreed on the formation of a committee of Jay Jacobson, Gregory Harris, Adelaide Schulkind and George Houser to develop plans for the 20th anniversary year. The meeting minutes discusses the Azores Pact, Herman Rebhan of the UAW, McGovern staff on southern Africa, Jennifer Davis, Barnard College student Zemoria Rosemond, General Foods, Nestles, Peter Connell of the Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, the African Heritage Studies Association, One Hundred Black Men, the Association of Black Executives, the East African Community Development Committee, Union Carbide, and the Africa Defense and Aid Fund.
