S. troops in the deserts of Saudi Arabia; during its eight-year war against Iran, Iraq purchased at least 100 G5 cannon from Armscor, the South African state arms manufacturer; many of which are probably now in Kuwait. The G5, reputedly the most efficient and far reaching artillery piece in the world was part of an oil-for-weapons swop.
