The mailing says Mnoedisi Daniel James Mange, a 24-year-old 'graduate' of the 1976 Soweto uprising, was condemned by a South African court to death by hanging; his sentence late last year revives the use of treason as a charge after many years. The mailing asks people to ask President Jimmy Carter to speak out about Mange and also to urge their representatives and senators in Congress, their church, union, community leaders to do the same. The mailing says Victor Hatlou, poet and writer and member of the African National Congress, is on trial under South Africa's Terrorism Act. Victor Matlou was travelling on a regular Lesotho Airways aircraft from Maputo, Mozambique, to Maseru, Lesotho on December 12, 1979, when the plane was diverted by bad weather to the South African airport at the city of Bloemfontein. The mailing asks people to send protests about Hatlou to South African State President Marais Viljoen in Cape Town and Ambassador Donald B. Sole at the South African Embassy in Washington, D.C. The mailing discusses the African National Congress (ANC), singing freedom songs, apartheid, international law, a crime against humanity, high treason, the President of the United Nations Security Council, and the South African Police (SAP).
