Leaflet advertising a protest at CBS National Headquarters in New York City on February 6, 1988. The leaflet says Godfrey Sicelo Dlomo, 18 years of age, was found murdered on the outskirts of Soweto, five days after being detained by South African police for questioning about statements he made in the CBS News' documentary "Children of Apartheid." The leaflet says CBS television, perhaps succumbing to pressure, originally broadcast "Children of Apartheid" in a timeslot that would assure the lowest possible viewership; in its efforts to keep its South African bureau open, CBS has evidently bent to the pressure of South Africa, almost to the point of partnership. Without the support of attention that "Children of Apartheid" should have received, Dlomo was left alone and unprotected. The leaflet asks why the President of CBS News has not issued a statement regarding this outrage. It also demands that those who murdered Dlomo be brought to justice, an investigation into the death be conducted by an independent body, namely the Geneva-based International Commission of Jurists, that the South African government immediately release all detainees and political prisoners, that CBS News re-broadcast "Children of Apartheid" in memory of this courageous young man, that the U.S. media not submit to South African censorship, and that all foreign corporations and governments refuse cooperation with South Africa until apartheid is dismantled.
