The mailing publicizes the links between citizens from Seattle and the people of Daliwe, a township in the Eastern Cape region of South Africa aimed at helping them fight apartheid and create a new South Africa. The mailing says in the past three months, the Seattle-Daliwe Sister Community Project (SDSCP) has had some exciting successes. There have been several conference calls with the Daliwe Residents Association including a call on March 29 made from the New Hope Baptist Church that included Mayor Norman Rice. A letter-writing campaign, undertaken at the request of the Daliwe residents, also has had success; the U.S. Ambassador to South Africa called our contact at the Grahamstown Rural Committee. The mailing says the Seattle City Council passes a resolution endorsing the efforts of the Seattle-Daliwe Sister Community Project. The mailing says there have been negotiations in Daliwe between the residents association, the local white government, and the figurehead black leaders of a nearby township, which let to progress on several issues. The mailing requests donations for this effort to supplement small start-up funding from the U.S.-South Africa Sister Community Project, good will of SANE/FREEZE and many volunteers, and donations generously received at the March 29 meeting.
