Leaflet handed out outside a movie theater in Albany showing the 1987 film Cry Freedom directed by Richard Attenborough. The leaflet supports S556, the Senate version of a bill to impose comprehensive sanctions against South Africa and Namibia (then occupied by South Africa) introduced by Senator Alan Cranston and Representative Ron Dellums in February 1987. The bill would have forced a complete withdraw of U.S. companies from South Africa and Namibia within six months, a ban on most trade with South Africa and ban on U.S. intelligence sharing with the South African government.
