Leaflet advocating a boycott of Shell Oil leaflet distributed by the United Mineworkers of America and the Free South Africa Movement and reprinted by the Seattle Coalition Against Apartheid. The boycott of Royal Dutch/Shell (Shell Oil's parent company) by major church, civil rights, labor, and citizens' groups around the world comes in response to requests from organizations of black South Africans including National Union of Mineworkers, the largest black union in South Africa, Pressure on big corporations like Shell that play a crucial role in South Africa puts pressure on apartheid. Shell and its South African subsidiaries supply fuel to the South African military and police and to the apartheid economy. The leaflet says contact Maryamu Eltayeb, Bill Corr, Rick Harwood. It discusses Bishop Desmond Tutu, Nelson Mandela, COSATU (Congress of South African Trade Unions), CUSA (Council of Union of South Africa), the World Council of Churches, AFL-CIO, NAACP, and the National Organization for Women. [Note on date: Desmond Tutu became Archbishop of Cape Town in September 1986, this leaflet must be before that date.]
