Leaflet advertising a picket and vigil at the Rhodesian Information Office (RIO) in Washington, D.C. sponsored by the American Friends Service Committee (Lyle Tatum, Demonstration Chairman, and Simeon White, Coordinator). The RIO is an information and lobbying office for the white minority colonial regime. The leaflet says Americans should restore U.S. compliance with the economic sanctions against Rhodesia imposed by the United Nations (UN) in 1966. In 1971, the Congress, led by Sen. Harry Byrd of Virginia, decided to disregard the embargo, with strong pressure from Union Carbide and Foote Mineral, both of which own large mines in Rhodesia.
