The mailing says June 16 marks the date when school children in Soweto who marched peacefully demanding equal education were brutally shot by the police. In commemoration, the Seattle Coalition Against Apartheid is sponsoring a Soweto Day March and Rally on June 18, 1985. It will start at Mt. Zion Baptist Church and proceed to Garfield High School, where the rally will occur. The march and rally have three demands: 1. Stop U.S. government and corporate support for apartheid. Divest Now!!! 2. Equal Education from Seattle to South Africa. 3. Stop U.S. military and nuclear collaboration with apartheid. The mailing asks people to attend a planning meeting on June 5.
