The mailing publicizes a community meeting of the Seattle Coalition Against Apartheid on May 15 at the Randolph Carter center. Proposed SOWETO DAY activities will be discussed and the film "Six Days in Soweto" will be shown about the uprising of over 20,000 students on June 16, 1976 in Soweto, South Africa's largest Black township. It began as a peaceful march in protest of Bantu education, and police fired without warning and 1,000 youth were killed. The impact of the Soweto uprising on the South African Liberation Movement is still being felt today.
