The mailing says since the July 1985 repeal of the Clark Amendment that prohibited U.S. intervention in Angola, Congressional conservatives have launched a drive to funnel aid to UNITA, the South African-backed rebels fighting the Angolan government. Nine pro-UNITA measures are pending in Congress. WOA has been supporting two bills currently pending in the House which would restrict aid to UNITA rebels in Angola. The mailing asks people to contact their representative and urge her or him to support HR 4276 and HR 3690 and oppose any pro-UNITA legislation. The mailing says aid to UNITA is aid to South Africa.
