The mailing announces the launch of a boycott of Del Monte Corporation in the Los Angeles area in conjunction with efforts in other west coast cities to protest the company's involvement in South Africa and Namibia. The mailing says Del Monte sells sardines that are illegally fished from Walvis Bay, Namibia and processed by John Ovenstone Ltd., a South African firm. The United Nations has made it illegal to extract, remove, explore for, use, or distribute any resource from Namibia without permission of the U.N.
