Edgar Lockwood; Washington Office on Africa
Washington, DC, United States
March 31, 1980
2 pages
Edgar Lockwood reports on the elation in the streets that he saw in Zimbabwe at the outcome of the election, in which the ZANU-PF won decisively. Lockwood says that the Washington Office on Africa had worked for many years to repeal the Byrd Amendment (which renewed U.S. compliance with economic sanctions against Rhodesia). The letter requests financial support for the office, as it refocuses to give more attention to Namibia and South Africa. [Note: the election report mentioned in the letter is available on this website.]
