Mailing on a Coalition Against Apartheid memorial service on April 6, 1984, commemorating the fifth anniversary of the execution of African National Congress freedom fighter Solomon Mahlangu and protesting the impending execution of ANC sympathizer Benjamin Moloise and all human rights violations, especially political detentions, by the South African apartheid regime. The program will include an invocation by Sipo Mzimela, exiled Episcopal priest and author of "Apartheid: South African Naziism"; greetings from the ANC by Fred Dube; Tandi Gcabashe, Southeastern director of the American Friends Service Committee's Southern Africa program and daughter of Chief Albert Lutuli, winner of the 1960 Nobel Peace Prize; and Dennis Brutus, exiled political activist, former political prisoner on Robben Island, and renowned poet. The letter says the program will conclude with messages of support from Connecticut legislators and representatives of national groups including Jean Sindab, director of the Washington Office on Africa; Susanne Riveles, director of the Southern Africa program of Amnesty International; Bill Johnston, president of Episcopal Churchmen for a Free Southern Africa and board member of the American Committee on Africa; Betsy Landis, retired attorney for the U.N. Council for Namibia; Ben Magubane, professor at U. Conn, Storrs and member of the ANC and representative of the Connecticut Anti-Apartheid Committee; Oseh Cole of the Ct. African Affairs Committee; Irving Stolberg, Ct. House Majority Leader; Stanley Welch, aide to Congressman Bruce Morrison; and representatives from the SWAPO observer mission to the U.N., the U.N. Centre Against Apartheid, and the U.N. Special Committee Against Apartheid. Others, such as Senator Lowell Weicker and nationwide campus anti-apartheid groups, will send letters of support. [Lutuli is also spelled "Luthuli."]
