Lee reports on the Ecumenical Monitoring Programme in South Africa (EMPSA), a joint effort by the South African Council of Churches, Southern African Catholic Bishops Conference, and the World Council of Churches to monitor the violence and to support local peace efforts. Based in Ladysmith, in northern KwaZulu Natal, she reported on Inkatha preventing the opening of an ANC office and security forces continuing to refer to the ANC as "the enemy."
