Cover letter asks people to urge Mervyn Dymally to hold hearings about Mozambique as an educational vehicle to counter ultra-conservative support for RENAMO in the U.S. The enclosed report by Hugh McCullum, dated January 15, 1992, discusses the extraordinary damage that RENAMO has caused to the agricultural, health, and educational infrastructure of the country while it has frightened and brutalized people. The report also lists recommendations made by a Canadian observer mission to Mozambique, which include cancelling Mozambique's debt and urging the World Bank to abandon a structural adjustment approach to this country where 40% of the budget must be spent on war caused by RENAMO.
