Reasons for opposing CIA aid to UNITA include UNITA's record of violating human rights, by killing civilians and disrupting food production and distribution. Supporting UNITA also puts the U.S. into an alliance with South Africa and damages its relations with independent Africa; the Organization of African Unity (0AU) declared that it would interpret any U.S. intervention on behalf of rebel forces in Angola as a hostile act toward the OAU. This document was part of a packet about Angola distributed by the United Church of Christ.
