This letter describes the Task Force's activities on Southern Africa. The Task Force was successful in getting Seafirst Bank to change its policy on lending to South Africa. The Task Force also established an "Honor Roll" of congregations that have divested their holdings in companies doing business with South Africa. The Task Force also supported weekly picketing, initiated by the Seattle Coalition Against Apartheid, at the South African consulate in 1984, which closed in September 1988 when the honorary consul died. The Task Force also works with other anti-apartheid groups on weekly pickets at Shell stations regarding Shell's complicity with apartheid. The Task Force hopes to become more active with the Mozambique Health Committee. The Task Force also does educational work. Task Force members can speak on South Africa, Namibia, Mozambique, and Zimbabwe, and the Task Force has hosted speakers from the African National Congress, the Black Consciousness movement, and the Embassy of Zimbabwe.
