This statement urging Control Data to withdraw from South Africa was made following a meeting of four members of the Minnesota Committee on Southern Africa (MICSA) with Control Data officials, at the request of the company. The statement reports that Control Data maintains that its presence in South Africa is positive because of its employment practices, although it employs only 19 Black workers. MICSA points out that Control Data has a much more significant negative effect because its computers are used in key South African industries and because the company is part of the larger international corporate community that provides financial support to the regime.
