Mailing of the Africa Defense and Aid Fund of the American Committee on Africa. The mailing says it is sadly ironic, yet recently two representatives or an African liberation movement, which is struggling to oust perhaps the most racist regime in the world, have themselves been the victims or American racism. The mailing says last month, Tapson Mawere, chief representative, and Synos Mangazva, publicity secretary or the Zimbabwe African National Union (ZANU) in the U.S., were brutally beaten in a restaurant in the small town or Harrington, Delaware; ZANU is one of the liberation movements struggling tor over a decade to bring majority rule and an end to the illegal white minority government of Ian Smith in Rhodesia. The mailing asks people to send a letter of protest to Governor Sherman W. Tribbitt and send a contribution to Africa Defense and Aid Fund, which is undertaking to raise over $2,000 to help meet the upcoming expenses of the legal defense. The mailing includes a memorandum To: Friends of Tapson Mawere and Synos Mangazva by George M. Houser. The mailing includes a reprint of a newspaper article "Blacks Get Smyrna 'Hospitality'" by William Hoffman. The mailing discusses Wilbert Cooper, the NAACP, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, obstructing police, public intoxication, assault in the 3rd degree, the Court of Common Pleas of Kent County Delaware, Conrad Lynn, Louis Redding, and friends of Mawere and Mangazva.
