Mailing asking people to write their Congressmen, the President, the Secretary of State, and the U.S. UN representative opposing H.J.R 111 and H.R. 5479. Wealthy and well organized interests are campaigning to produce a climate of opinion in the U.S. supporting the white minority governments in the southern Africa. The mailing says "stability" and economic development are held up as the two criteria for judging success, but the fact that stability is achieved at the expense of a rigorously controlled police state is blithely dismissed. And people are also ignoring that the African people's economic progress is not keeping pace with the rising cost of living, discriminatory legislation has intensified, and the abrogation of the rule of law continues. The "Friends of Rhodesia" and "American-Southern Africa Council" are working hard to get the U.S. to disavow the policy to which it is committed to enforce the U.N. sanctions against Rhodesia. The mailing includes a copy of a letter people can send. The mailing includes CONSTITUENCY PROJECT, a list of Congressman and Senators. The mailing discusses Security Council Resolution 232, the President's Executive Order 11322, African majorities, white-minority-dominated countries, importing, asbestos, iron ore, chrome, pig iron, sugar, tobacco, copper, meat, arms, ammunition, military vehicles and equipment, aircraft, motor vehicles, oil, oil products, the Secretary of State, the Secretary of Commerce, the Export Control Act, exports, H.J.R. 111, Rep. Utt, H.R. 5479, Rep. Rarick, President Lyndon B. Johnson, Secretary of State Dean Rusk, and the Honorable Arthur M. Goldberg.
