This mailing announces the Coalition's new priority to support "de-colonization, majority rule and authentic self-determination for southern Africa." Foci of this work at the beginning of the Carter Administration will be repealing the Byrd Amendment that allows imports of chrome from Rhodesia; applying human rights legislation to South Africa, including stopping Export-Import Bank financial of trade with South Africa; and denying tax credits to U.S. companies investing in South African and Namibia. The Washington Office on Africa was active in this Coalition. [Resources sent with this letter appear separately on this website.]
