This mailing lists legislation on Southern Africa introduced in Congress from January 31 to October 26, 1977. In this period of increasing political repression in South Africa and the death of Steve Biko at the hands of the South African police (on September 12), there was increased political attention to the region. The bills and resolutions address military and economic relations with South Africa, including trade financing by the Export-Import Bank. Resolutions call on the administration to support United Nations-supervised elections in both Namibia and Southern Rhodesia.
