An article, "Investing in Apartheid," in the newsletter of CALC in Minnesota reports on the uprising of political protest inside South Africa in 1976 and one response to these developments - a campaign against U.S. banks lending to South Africa organized by Clergy and Laity Concerned, the American Committee on Africa, and the Interfaith Center on Corporate Responsibility. Six banks, including City National of Detroit and Central National of Chicago, have ceased lending to South Africa in response to community pressure. Another article, "U. S. Power and Repression: Banking on Apartheid," reports on actions by Minnesota CALC to organize a delegation of church and community leaders and call on two Minnesota banks to discontinue all loans to South Africa.
