Mailing with a cover letter by Jennifer Davis to enlist support for a New York City Council bill, Int. No. 619, which would ban city purchases of products made in South Africa or by corporations that invest in South Africa. The mailing says the bill was introduced by Councilmember Ruth Messinger at the request of Local 371 AFSCME, after one of its members discovered that South African pineapple was being served in the city's Men's Shelter. The mailing asks people to write to Committee chair Peter F. Vallone and to Council Majority Leader Thomas Cuite and Mayor Koch to express support for the bill, a copy of which is included in the mailing.
