Press release announcing plans for a Southern Africa Sunday in New York City to remember the Sharpeville Massacre 22 years ago. The South African Council of Churches, and its general secretary Bishop Desmond Tutu, have been among the strongest critics of apartheid. The church in South Africa recently has come under severe attack from the Botha regime. Four pastors were detained and tortured in late 1981 in the northern part of the country. Howard Moody, Judson Memorial Church; Rev. Dr. Donald Harrington, Community Church of New York; and Carl McCall, Former Deputy United Nations Ambassador.
