Statement by Kenneth Kaunda accepting an invitation from the American Committee on Africa (ACOA) to address the Africa Freedom Day rallies in Washington, D.C. and New York. Kaunda says he feels it is important for the American government and public to hear from informed Africans first-hand about developments in British-controlled Central Africa. Kaunda discusses the recent conference about the constitutional future of Northern Rhodesia, a British Protectorate that was forced into the Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland in 1953. The conference ended in a deadlock in London due to unconstitutional interference by the Federal Prime Minister, Sir Roland (Roy) Welensky.
