The press release says George M. Houser, Executive Director of the American Committee on Africa, has urged President Kennedy to continue not to interference with the capture of the Portuguese cruise ship Santa Maria by Henrique Malta Galvao. Houser also sent telegrams to Secretary of State Dean Rusk, Under Secretary of State Chester Bowles, and G. Mennen Williams, Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs. The telegram, included with the press release, says Galvao was a Portuguese overseas inspector in Angola who was imprisoned in 1951 for his report critical of Portugal's forced labor system in Angola, that the seizure of ship has definite implications for Portuguese colonial policy...
