Francis Njubi Nesbitt received a B.A. in anthropology from the University of Nairobi in Kenya. He continued his studies in the United States, receiving a M.A. in international peace studies from University of Notre Dame in 1992 and a Ph.D. in African-American Studies from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. He is the author of Race for Sanctions: African Americans against Apartheid 1946-1994 (Indiana University Press, 2003). This interview was conducted during the conference A Decade of Freedom: Celebrating the Role of the International Anti-Apartheid Movement in South Africa's Freedom Struggle held in Durban, South Africa, October 10-13, 2004.
