The Southern Africa Task Force was a student group at Boston University. The Southern Africa Task Force organized a "Fest for a Free Southern Africa and a Better Educated Boston" that raised over $300 which was divided between a Boston area reading project, the African National Congress (ANC) sponsored Solomon Mahlangu Freedom College in Tanzania, and SWAPO refugees. The Southern Africa Task Force also collection almost 5,000 books and 21 large boxes of cloths that were sent to the Solomon Mahlangu Freedom College. The Southern Africa Task Force apparently campaigned to get Boston University to divest from companies doing business in South Africa. On several occasions shanty towns were built on the Boston University campus in 1985 and 1986, possibly all by the Southern Africa Task Force. Boston University quicky tore down the shanties.
