In the fall of 1981, the Black Students’ Association (BSA) partnered with the Divestment Coalition of the College of Wooster and a few other groups to call on the Board of Trustees to review its investment policy regarding companies operating in South Africa. South Africa was the focus of Africa Week that fall, at which South African poet and activist spoke. Africa Week was organized by students in connection with the Office of Black Student Affairs. A BSA representative spoke about apartheid at the Student Government Association in November 1985. In the fall of 1986, the BSA was one of the sponsors of Africa Week, where Jean Sindab, Director of the Washington Office on Africa, was a featured speaker. The BSA led student protests of apartheid and advocating for divestment that year. (Source: Articles in The College of Wooster Voice, the student newspaper.)
