Students Against Apartheid protested Seattle University's investment in companies doing business in South Africa. In March, 1986, a representative of the group spoke at the Board of Trustees meeting and brought with him petition with 300 signatures favoring divestment, while the Associated Students of Seattle University held a rally outside. The trustees voted at that meeting to divest from companies that have ownership in South Africa. In the fall of 1986, Students Against Apartheid affiliated with the new Peace and Justice Center, along with Amnesty International, Coalition for Human Concern, and Bread for the World. Seattle University is a Jesuit institution.
