The New Jersey Coalition of Black Student Organizations was an association of black student groups from about a dozen colleges and universities that was founded as a result of a conference at Princeton University in early 1979 on “Black America-Southern Africa: Same Struggle Same Fight." The Coalition co-sponsored a "Run for Southern African Liberation" in Princeton in both 1979 and 1984 with the People's Front for the Liberation of Southern Africa. A representative of the Coalition made a presentation at a meeting of the UN Special Committee Against Apartheid in October 1979 and participated in the National Student Anti-Apartheid Strategy Conference on October 3-4, 1981 at Hunter College. In 1980, the Coalition sponsored a commemoration for Malcolm X at Kean College and a “Demonstration Against Black Oppression” at Rutgers University, as well as a demonstration at several sites in Trenton.
