The Ohio Alliance Against Apartheid was described by member Charles Vaughn as an alliance based at Ohio Wesleyan University composed of “Ohio colleges who have divested, are in the process of divesting, or are making plans to divest.” In May 1979, the Alliance organized a rally in support of divestment outside the Memorial Union Building, where the Ohio Wesleyan trustees would be meeting. Students from Antioch College, Oberlin College, Kent State University, Miami University, Bowling Green University, and Kenyon College were expected to participate. In 1979, the Wesleyan Council on Student Affairs, the student government body at Ohio Wesleyan, adopted a resolution supporting divestment from companies operating in South Africa.
