The Georgia State University Student Coalition Against Apartheid and Racism (GSU-SCAR) held frequent rallies and marches at the Georgia Board of Regents Office demanding that the Regents divest from companies doing business in South Africa. The group worked with students from Emory University, Georgia Tech, Clark Atlanta University, and Morehouse University to press for divestment. The Regents voted to divest from companies operating in South Africa in December, 1986. The Regents then voted to divest holdings of the Georgia Teachers Retirement System from companies operating in South Africa, a resolution written by a Professor of Sociology and sponsored by the Georgia State History Department.
