The New York Southern Africa Solidarity Coalition was involved in campaigning for congressional legislation against South Africa. The New York Southern Africa Solidarity Coalition supported the cultural boycott of South Africa including protesting against the movie The Gods Must Be Crazy. The Coalition protested the Museum of Natural History's links to South Africa. The New York Southern Africa Solidarity Coalition held fundraising concerts featuring performers such as Noel Pointer; Roy Ayers; 'Dollar Brand'; Hugh Masekela, and others; funds were provided to ANC and SWAPO. It engaged in picketing, leafleting, marching, especially in Harlem. The New York Southern Africa Solidarity Coalition received support from students at Columbia University. The organization attended the North American Regional Conference for Action Against Apartheid at the United Nations in June 1984.
