Arizona Coalition Against Apartheid worked to bar investment of public employee pension funds in banks and other industries doing business in South Africa. According to the organization, in 1986 the Arizona state pension funds had an estimated $750 million invested in such companies. The president of the Arizona Coalition Against Apartheid was Mike Shea of the public employee union, American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME).
