The Dennis Brutus Defense Committee (DBDC) was formed about 1981. It mainly seems to have operated from Chicago but some documents were issued in Evanston, Illinois. The Dennis Brutus Defense Coordinating Committee that existed in Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts was most likely a part of the DBDC. In February 1981 Dennis Brutus, an exile from South Africa and a full professor at Northwestern University, was ordered to leave the United States by March 5, 1981. Brutus was a founder and President of the South African Non-Racial Olympic Committee (SAN-RAC). SAN-ROC was formed in the South Africa but when Brutus went into exile the organization went into exile. The DBDC helped organization the successful defense of Brutus, who won his legal case against deportation.
