The Committee recruited volunteers from Chicago to serve as election observers in South Africa. Organizations included in the CCFESA included the Illinois Labor Network Against Apartheid, Black Faculty and Staff in Higher Education, Democracy for South Africa, the Coalition of Black Trade Unionists (CBTU), the Community Renewal Society, Operation PUSH, the Chicago Committee in Solidarity with Southern Africa (CCISSA), the Chicago-Alexandra Sister Community Project, the Chicago Conference of Black Lawyers, and The National Lawyers' Guild-Chicago Chapter.
