The Committee Against Racism (CAR) was formed in 1973 and later changed its name to the International Committee Against Racism (InCAR). The organization had chapters in a number of cities. CAR/InCAR took up many different battles against racism in the U.S., including successful efforts to physically break up Ku Klux Klan (KKK) rallies. InCAR/CAR were involved in the struggle against apartheid. The Baltimore chapter was involved in a national campaign to get McGraw-Hill to stop publishing books, such as “Managing Black Workers,” for the racist South African market.
