The Texas Coalition for a Free South Africa was a community organization dedicated to a nonracial, nonsexist, democratic South Africa. The Texas Coalition for a Free South Africa worked closely with the Houston chapter of the African National Congress (ANC). The Texas Coalition for a Free South Africa sponsored demonstrations and was involved in bringing South African speakers to Houston including Lidiwe Mabuza, the chief representative of the African National Congress (ANC) to the United States; and Peter Mokaba, a member of the ANC National Executive Committee. The Texas Coalition for a Free South Africa was the Houston sponsor of the Student-to-Student Anti-Apartheid Empowerment Tour which came to Houston in March 1993. The Texas Coalition for a Free South Africa raised money for the ANC parliamentary campaign for the April 199 elections. The Texas Coalition for a Free South Africa went out of existence sometime after the first nonracial elections in South Africa in April 1994.
