The Brown Free Southern Africa Coalition (BFSAC) was a student anti-apartheid organization at Brown University. The Brown Free Southern Africa Coalition campaigned to get Brown University to divest from companies doing business in apartheid South Africa. On March 19, 1986 14 student protesters arrested yesterday when they staged a sit-in at an International Business Machines (IBM) office building in downtown Providence to protest the company's holdings in South Africa. Starting in late April four members of BFSAC held a water-only fast to protest the university’s investments in companies doing business in South Africa. In April 1986 BFSAC build a shanty on the campus.
