The Pan-African Students Union (PASU) was an organization based at Wayne State University. Since its founding, the PASU viewed the African National Congress (ANC) as the legitimate vanguard organization leading the struggle for national liberation and social justice in South Africa. PASU also supported the South West Africa People's Organization (SWAPO) and the Front Line States. PSAU campaigned to get Wayne State University to divest its holdings in corporations doing business in South Africa. Between 1983 and 1987 PSAU organized of six conferences in solidarity with the people of southern Africa and between 1984 and 1986 organized a campaign against General Motors involvement in South Africa. PASU participated in a city-wide book drive for SWAPO refugees in Angola. PSAU was involved in the creation of the creation of the Nelson Mandela Reception Committee in Detroit.
