The Irish Anti-Apartheid Movement (IAAM) was founded in 1963 to support the people of Southern Africa in their struggle for liberation from white minority rule. IAAM continued until the early 1990s and was replaced by a successor organization call the Ireland South Africa Association. Kader Asmal, after apartheid a member of the South African Parliament and member of the cabinet, was a founder and served as chair until 1990 when he returned to South Africa. Louise Asmal was also a key member of the organization and Sean MacBride was a sponsor.
