Filmmakers United Against Apartheid (FUAA) supported the cultural boycott of South Africa. The goal of FUAA was to withhold all American-made and American-financed movies from South Africa. FUAA was cofounded by Jonathan Demme and Martin Scorsese. The organization quickly grew to about 120 members. In November 1987 FUAA sent a letter Reagan signed by more than 100 member to President urging him to support the cultural boycott.
