The Poster Project reprinted posters from South Africa by organizations involve in fighting against apartheid including the Federation of South African Trade Unions (FOSATU) and the United Democratic Front (UDF) to raise funds for liberation groups in South Africa. Money raised was apparently distributed to the UDF, a multiracial anti-apartheid coalition; the Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU), a labor federation established in December 1985 that replaced FOSATU; and the Black Sash, a women's organization which aided the fight against pass laws and forced removals.
