Solidaritätskomitee der DDR (Solidarity Committee of the German Democratic Republic) was an anti-imperialist solidarity organization based in the German Democratic Republic (GDR) [Deutsche Demokratische Republik, DDR] that provided political and moral solidarity to those fighting imperialism, colonialism, racism, and apartheid and provided material aid (especially to movements in Angola and South Africa). Its original name was Solidaritätskomitee für Afrika (Solidarity Committee for Africa). The organization coordinated action by social organizations, public institutions, and the people of the GDR. It had relationships with and supported the Patriotic Front/Zimbabwe African People’s Union (ZAPU), the South West African People’s Organization (SWAPO) of Namibia, and the African National Congress (ANC) of South Africa. In 1978, the organization was admitted as a member of the Afro-Asian Peoples Solidarity Organization (AAPSO) based in Cairo, Egypt. (Source: E.S.
